To get there:
By Taxi:
Judiciary Square., 3rd and Constitution
Be sure to tell the cabbie you want the FEDERAL court, because the municipal court is nearby.
By Metro:
Take the Red Line to the Judiciary Square station (or as it’s often pronounced, “Jidicuary Square” or “Jidiciary Square” or some other variation. I heard one announcement recently from someone who apparently had given up entirely and said simply, “Jishy Square.” Listen closely.)
Here are some shots of the inside, and an indication of Red Line stations: world.nycsubway.org/us/wa…
Follow the signs to exit at the “Courthouses” end.
Go up the escalator.
At the top of the escalator, keep walking straight ahead and cross the small plaza. (see the “4th St. Exit” on this map:
www.stationmasters.com/Sy…. Go in the direction of that big arrow.)
Cross the street (D Street)
Slightly to the left will be a cement pathway. You’ll still be going in the same basic direction, just jog a bit to the left to take the pathway to the next street (C Street).
Ahead, across C Street, there will be construction on a building to your left, and a large government-type building to your right. That is the Prettyman Courthouse, but it’s the back end of it, and you’ll need to go to the side entrance.
Turn Right on C Street, skirting the courthouse; and turn left at the end, into John Marshall Park. The entrance will be half way down.
You’ll do the metal-detector drill (no cameras or camera phones; these you’ll have to check), and you’re in. Walk straight ahead till you see the elevator banks on your right.
If you’re hungry, the basement cafeteria is not bad, and even has a fruit/salad bar. The National Gallery is across Pennsylvannia/Constitution Ave (out the front entrance; the two streets intersect in front of the courthouse) and is reputed to have very nice dining facilities.
HOURS
Generally, court is in session from 9:30 PM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday, with a break for lunch around 12:45-2PM. There are 2 10-15 Minute breaks — one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
However, things change quite often. I try to post timely updates at www.tobaccoontrial.com.
